Laughter: Perhaps it is the world's best medicine

When Alex was in the hospital the first time, it was the first time that he and Michael were apart since they were born. It was difficult to handle but one thing that got us through was video chatting during the day. Michael is a natural born comedian. There is no denying his need to make others laugh. And he kept us laughing during those video chats during those long 5 days. After Alex's discharge from the hospital, things were still very stressful. We were home and all together as a family again but there was a lot we were all dealing with as we moved forward. As a way to destress some, Michael and I started posting videos for our facebook friends where he would share a "bad dad joke" to lift everyone's spirits. It was also something that as a mom, I could do to bring the focus back to him after and while focusing so much attention otherwise on his brother. Our first video we posted came about a month after Alex's release from the hospital.

As the days and months kept passing on, his jokes kept coming.

Every once in a while, even Alex would get in on the fun.

Our jokes became our tradition and something that everyone could look forward to. We don't post jokes quite as often for everyone to see but he's still and will probably always be our little comedian. During our last hospital stay, he would find little ways to make Alex laugh whether it was with a silly face or a crazy dance move. He provides us with a constant reminder that there is always something positive around us, even if we have to create the positivity ourselves. When Support isn’t Support...

Because of that experience, I had almost let go of my mission. I was feeling defeated and like what I had to say, our story, didn’t matter.
